Camelon in history and legend

Camelon has a fascinating history - and an even more fascinating set of legends attached to it.

Heard the one about this being the site of King Arthur's Round Table? Camelot's only a letter out, you know. Or the story about a mighty Pictish city with by 12 brass gates standing here?

Sadly, these glorious romantic tales are unlikely to be true. But that doesn't stop them being interesting - so why not chronicle them here? If you know a bit more about the legends, then why not start your own article here about them?

Of course, this is the place to chart Camelon's real history, too. There's loads of local knowledge about this area's past, and this section of s1camelon.com is the best place to show it off.

How about a history of Mariner's Day? Or some detail about the nearby Roman remains? If you've got the detail, please post it!

You don't have to be a historian or an expert - every little helps. Perhaps you've got an old black and white photo of the town - post it here with whatever information you have. You'll be surprised how willing people are to fill in the gaps.

Even if you've heard some good tales about the past, but perhaps you're not sure about the details, then post them here and explain your doubts - someone out there will know the truth!

Another good idea is to build a timeline. Just list the key dates and let other people add to it.

And, of course, if you are a keen local historian then this is a great place to show off what you know - you never know, you might get feedback you didn't expect that opens up whole new areas for you.

Don't forget, history doesn't have to be in black and white. Old school photographs and memories from as recently as the 1980s or 90s are of interest to a lot of people - and they all help to build up Camelon's rich history.

So come on, it's your turn! There must be a wealth of wonderful historical facts, figures and photos from old Camelon out there. Post it all here, and let's see if we can really chronicle the history of Camelon in a way we can all share!

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
